Christian Christensen (politician)

Christian Christensen (born January 20, 1925 in Nørre Bork , Region Midtjylland , † September 30, 1988 ) was a Danish politician of the Kristeligt Folkeparti , who was Minister of the Environment and Minister for Nordic Affairs in the 1980s.

Life

Christensen, son of a farmer, initially also worked in agriculture after attending elementary school and graduated from Hoptrup Sogn University between 1944 and 1945 . After completing the Haslev teacher training college , he became a teacher at the Haslev Community and Secondary School in 1952 and taught there until 1961. At the same time, he also became a teacher at the Haslev Commercial School in 1952 , of which he was rector between 1954 and 1961. During this time, between 1958 and 1961, he also completed further training as a specialist teacher for economic geography and economics at the Danish Teachers' College ( Danmarks Lærerhøjskole ). In addition, he was involved in youth work in the Boy Scout Association of the Christian Association of Young People (YMCA) and was also a member of the Haslev Church Council from 1958 to 1961. In 1961 he returned to his home region of Midtjylland and between 1961 and 1972 was both school inspector in Ringkøbing and, most recently, school director for the municipal school system in Ringkøbing.

Christensen, who was one of the co-founders of Kristeligt Folkeparti in 1970, became chairman of the party in Ringkøbing in 1971 and head of the Ringkjøbing office between 1972 and 1974 . After he had run unsuccessfully for a seat in the Folketing in the Ringkjøbing constituency in the election of September 21, 1971 , he was elected for the first time as a member of the Folketing in the foilketing elections on December 4, 1973 and represented until the May 10, 1988 elections the constituency of Ringkjøbing Amt-Herning .

During his membership in parliament, Christensen was chairman of the Kristeligt Folkeparti faction from 1973 to 1978 and, at the same time, deputy chairman of the party and a member of the party executive and executive committee. After the previous party chairman Jens Møller was not re-elected in 1979, Christensen temporarily took over the post of political leader of the party in 1979 until Flemming Kofod-Svendsen was elected.

On September 10, 1982 Christensen was appointed Environment Minister ( Miljøminister ) in his first government by Prime Minister Poul Schlüter and held this ministerial office until June 3, 1988. At the same time, between 1982 and 1987 he took over the office of Minister for Nordic Affairs ( Minister for nordiske Fixing ).
