Hans Christian Schmidt (born August 25, 1953 in Nustrup, today part of Vojens Kommune ) is a Danish teacher and politician ( Venstre ).

Life

Schmidt graduated from Kolding-Gymnasium in 1973 and passed his exams as a teacher at the Haderslev seminar in 1977. At first he worked as a teacher.

From 1982 to 2002 he was a member of the Vojens City Council. He has been a member of the Folketing since 1994 . He served as Danish Environment Minister from 2001 to 2004 and then until 2007 as Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries in the Fogh Rasmussen I and II cabinets . In 2007 he had to take over the group chairmanship. In the Lars Løkke Rasmussen I government , he returned to the government bank as Danish Transport Minister from February 23, 2010 to October 3, 2011 . According to his group colleague Kristian Pihl Lorentzen , he was “the best transport minister we have ever had”.
