Holger Hansen

Erik Holger Hansen (born May 16, 1929 in Tågeby , Mern Sogn , Sjælland Region ; † May 3, 2015 ) was a Danish farmer , university professor and politician of the Venstre , who was among other things Minister of the Environment and Minister for Greenland .

Life

Farmer and MP

Hansen, who like his father became a farmer, attended Frederiksborg Højskole between 1947 and 1948 and, after studying in England, from 1952 to 1953 the agricultural school in Lyngby and finally in 1957 the school Breijdablik of the liberal Venstre. In 1959 he became the owner of the Kildevang estate in Tågeby.

Hansen began his political career in 1954 as chairman of the youth association of the Venstre ( Venstre Ungdom ) in South Zealand and then between 1957 and 1959 as chairman of the VU of Præstø and at the same time as a member of the office of the national organization of Venstre Ungdom. In the elections of May 14, 1957 he ran unsuccessfully for the Venstre in the constituency of Kalundborg-Samsø for a mandate in the Folketing . He was also involved in local politics and was a member of Mern Sogn's council between 1958 and 1970.

In the elections of November 15, 1960 , Hansen was elected for the first time as a member of the Folketing. His election in the constituency of Stege-Vordingborg attracted some attention, as he was able to prevail in the party nomination against the previous MP and later chairman of the Venstre and Prime Minister Poul Hartling . During his membership in parliament he dealt in particular with issues relating to social, educational and local politics. Due to the growing industrialization, he called for higher social investments for villages with agriculture, but also better education and participation in the consequences of the depopulation of rural settlement areas.

After the Folketing election of January 23, 1968 , which led to the end of the government of Jens Otto Krag from the Social Democrats and, on the 2nd, the formation of a bourgeois coalition under Hilmar Baunsgaard from Det RadISCHE Venstre (RV), Hansen acted as chairman between 1968 and 1971 of the Social Committee of the Folketing and was at the same time a member of the Council for Greenland from 1968 to 1973 as well as the board of the Venstre faction in the Folketing. He then took over the role of Chairman of the Burden and Tasks Committee for Greenland between 1970 and 1973.

Minister and professor

In the Folketing elections of December 4, 1973 he suffered a defeat and lost his seat in the Folketing. As Poul Hartling after this election Prime Minister was guided by the Venstre coalition government, this Hansen (appointed nevertheless on 19 December 1973 Minister of Greenland Minister for Greenland ) in the Cabinet . In addition to this ministerial office, he was also Environment Minister ( Miljøminister ) until the end of Hartling's tenure on February 13, 1975 . Between 1994 and 1996 he was also director of studies at the Law Faculty of the University of Copenhagen.
