Tom Høyem

Tom Høyem (born October 10, 1941 in Nykøbing Falster , Denmark ) is a Danish-German politician . He was Danish Minister for Greenland and director of several European schools .

In 1973 he participated in the founding of the Danish party Centrum-Demokraterne . From 1975 to 1979 he worked as a lecturer for Danish language and literature at Stockholm University and was also a foreign correspondent for the Danish daily Berlingske Tidende . He participated in the founding of the Swedish Center Democrats and became its vice-chairman. In 1975 he founded a Danish adult education center and, as its chairman, ensured that departments were set up in many European countries. In 1979 he became the director of a Danish boarding high school.

In September 1982 he joined the Danish government under Poul Schlueter as Greenland Minister and held this office until 1987. He then took over the management of the European School in Culham , was appointed director of the European School in Munich in 1994 and moved to the European School in Karlsruhe as its director in 2000. In August 2015 he retired from the post of school director at the ESK.

In 1994 he joined the FDP and was elected to the Karlsruhe municipal council in 2004 . In 2005 he became a member of Venstre , the liberal party of Denmark. He has been used repeatedly as an election observer by the OECD and the Danish government, namely in Albania, Bosnia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Ukraine, Palestine and the Democratic Republic of the Congo .

Tom Høyem has been married for a second time since 2002 and has four children. On September 1, 2015, he received German citizenship.
