Hermann Maschke

Hermann Maschke (born December 8, 1906 in Proschwitz an der Neisse , today Proseč nad Nisou , district of Jablonec nad Nisou ; † June 16, 1981 ) was a German politician ( KPTsch / SED ), Spain fighter and member of the German People's Police .

Life

Maschke was born into a working-class family and worked as a textile worker after completing school. In 1924 he became a member of the Communist Youth Association of Czechoslovakia, in 1925 a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KPTsch) and a member of the KPTsch district leadership Reichenberg . He was unemployed for six years. From 1936 to 1938 he was a member of the Second Battalion of the XI. International Brigade in the Spanish Civil War . In 1939 he was stripped of his German citizenship. He was imprisoned in Spain from 1938 to 1942. In 1942 he was extradited to Germany by the Spanish authorities and was imprisoned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp until liberation .

In 1945 Maschke became a member of the KPD , in 1946 of the SED. He joined the German People's Police (VP) and was temporarily secretary of the SED basic organization of the district authority of the German People's Police in Schwerin. He remained a member of the VP until 1958, most recently in the rank of major . From 1958 to 1962 he was chairman of the District Party Control Commission (BPKK) Schwerin of the SED and a member of the office of the SED district leadership.
