Mikael Gam

Mikael Gam (born February 14, 1901 in Sinding ; † May 24, 1982 in Virum , Copenhagen ) was a Danish school principal and Greenland minister .

Life

After working in agriculture, Gam passed his teacher exams at the Silkeborg seminarium in 1924. After a year as a teacher in Uge near Tinglev , Gam was employed in Grønland's seminarium . In 1928 Gam was appointed head of the Efterskole in Aasiaat and stayed there until 1948, from 1931 additionally as a school advisor for North Greenland. From 1948 to 1950 he was assigned to the Greenland Commission as an expert. In 1950 he was appointed school principal for Greenland and took his leave in 1960. In the 1960 election he was elected to the Folketing for the constituency of North Greenland , and he was the only Dane to ever take one of the two Greenlandic Folketing seats. He was then appointed Greenland Minister in the Kampmann II cabinet in order to secure a majority in the government, replacing Kai Lindberg on the post. With the Folketing election in 1964 , Gam retired from active politics as a member of the Krag I cabinet . From 1965 to 1970 he was chairman of the Greenland Society .
