Ida Auken

Ida Auken (born April 22, 1978 in Valby ) is a Danish theologian and politician . She was Environment Minister in the government of Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt from October 3, 2011 to February 3, 2014 . On January 31, 2014, she left the Socialist People's Party and switched to the left-wing liberal party Det Radliche Venstre .

Life

The daughter of the SF European parliamentarian Margrete Auken and the literary scholar Erik A. Nielsen grew up in a western suburb of Copenhagen. She completed part of her schooling at a middle school in the United States. After graduating from high school, she spent a voluntary year in Central America, mostly in Nicaragua , in 1998 . She then began studying theology at the University of Copenhagen , which she completed in 2006. She spent two semesters abroad in Berlin .

As a theologian, Ida Auken was interested in the conflict between religion and politics from the start . In autumn 2006 she led a seminar on Modern Identity between Religion and Politics at the University of Copenhagen . At the People's University of Copenhagen, an institution of adult education, she also taught political theology, among other things. Between 2005 and 2007 she worked as an editor in the small publishing house ALFA, which publishes theological literature. She herself published several books on theological topics. In addition, as a qualified theologian, she completed an internship as a hospital and prison pastor.

At the age of 25, she joined the Socialistisk Folkeparti in 2003 . Just two years later she ran for the 2005 Folketing election in the Esbjergkreds constituency , but was not elected. For the 2007 election she ran in her hometown Valby and won the election in the Folketing , the Danish parliament. There she was the environmental policy spokesperson for her party and was also a member of the energy policy committee and the culture committee of parliament. From October 3, 2011, she headed the Danish Ministry of the Environment . After her party left the government, she joined the remaining small coalition partner, the left-wing liberals. On February 3, 2014, Ida Auken left the office of Environment Minister. For succeeded by Kirsten Brosbøl appointed.

Ida Auken is married to the teacher Bent Meier Sørensen and has a son (* 2011). She is a niece of the Danish politician Svend Auken .
