Margrete Auken (born January 6, 1945 in Aarhus ) is a Danish politician and member of the European Parliament for the Socialist People's Party ( Socialistisk Folkeparti , SF).

Life

Auken studied Protestant theology at the University of Copenhagen and initially worked as a pastor . She was a member of the Danish Folketing Parliament from October 1979 to December 1990 and from September 1994 to June 2004.

In 2004 she entered the European Parliament as the only SF candidate . Initially without the consent of her party, she became a member of the Greens / EFA group instead of joining the group of the European Left . Auken also moved into the European Parliament in the 2009, 2014 and 2019 elections.

In the ninth legislature of Parliament (2019-2024) she is a member of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety , the Committee on Petitions and a deputy member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs for her group .

Margrete Auken is the older sister of the multiple Danish bridge master Jens Auken and the younger sister of the social democratic politician Svend Auken and mother of Ida Auken , who is also a politician.
