Jens Auken

Jens Auken (born April 15, 1949 - January 18, 2014 ) was a Danish lawyer and bridge player .

Life

Jens was a son of the married couple Gunnar and Kirsten Auken and the brother of Svend Auken , Margrete Auken , Gunvor Auken and the twin sisters Ingegerd and Charlotte from his father's second marriage. Between 1995 and 2007 he had four sons. The two older sons Christian (* 1995) and Maximilian (* 1999) come from the connection with his bridge colleague Sabine Auken (* 1965), who was born in Bamberg , and the two younger sons from the relationship with the psychologist Anne Kristine Auken.

Legal career

Auken became a lawyer in 1982 and was employed by the Supreme Court in 1987. He was one of the country's leading specialists in the field of expropriation law. Jens Auken was both a member and a partner of the law firm Bech-Bruun.

As a young man, Jens Auken played in the national basketball team for a while , but he was best known as one of the best bridge players in Denmark. In April 2012 he won his tenth gold in the Danish championship for the 'Konow' team. Auken played over 400 international matches for Denmark and won numerous tournaments. He is the holder of the Danish record in the pair classification with a total of 9 wins. He won the last rating in 2011 together with his partner Peter Schaltz . Auken was also very active in various bridge sports organizations, including a. as 1st Vice President of the European Bridge League and as a member of the Executive Committee of the World Bridge Federation .
