World Bridge Federation
The World Bridge Federation (WBF) is the world association of the bridge card game . The WBF is responsible for the implementation of the world championships, which are usually held in a four-year cycle. The most prestigious championships for national teams in the open, women and senior categories are: the Bermuda Bowl , the Venice Cup and the d'Orsi Seniors Trophy (collectively the two-year "World Teams Championships"), and those every four years discharged world team Olympiad that since 2008 the part of world Mind Sports Games is. The World Bridge Federation was founded in August 1958 by delegates from Europe as well as North and South America as a non-profit organization in accordance with Swiss law. Harold S. Vanderbilt became the first honorary member of the WBF for his work in the development of the game. Gianarrigo Rona from Italy has been the President since October 2010 .
The WBF today consists of 123 national bridge organizations (NBOs) with around 700,000 members who take part in local bridge competitions and also compete nationally and internationally. The NBOs are part of one of the eight zone organizations. Every national bridge organization meets certain requirements, such as: B. the opening for all residents of the corresponding zone and the observance of a certain ethical standard.
The World Bridge Federation regularly holds a congress to which any national bridge organization can send a delegate. The congress meets every two years at the Team Olympics and the World Championships. The EAER is led by an Executive Council, which is assisted by the various committees and advisors at its meetings.
