Morten Bødskov (born May 1, 1970 in Karup ) is a politician of the Danish Social Democrats and has been Danish Minister of Taxes since July 27, 2019 . He was previously Minister of Justice in the Thorning-Schmidt I government from October 3, 2011 to December 12, 2013 .

Life

The son of a teacher and a geriatric nurse studied after high school from 1991 to 1994 social sciences at Ålborg Universitetscenter and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts . After completing his studies, he became secretary for international connections in the social democratic youth organization DSU in 1994 and was then its chairman from 1996 to 2000.

In addition to a short-term postgraduate course at the University of Roskilde , he was a student assistant in the board secretariat of the Social Democrats between 2000 and 2001, before he was a consultant for TVropa Communication for some time in 2001.

In the 2001 Folketing election , Bødskov was elected to the Folketing , where he initially represented the constituency of Københavns Amtskreds until November 13, 2007 . During this time he was first legal policy spokesman in 2005 and then vice-chairman of his group in 2006 . Since the 2007 Folketing election , he has been running in the constituency of Københavns Omegns Storkreds and has been his party's financial policy spokesman. At times he was also chairman of the special committee for intelligence services .

On October 3, 2011, Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt appointed him Minister of Justice of the newly formed government. After admitting that he had lied to Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs, Bødskov resigned on December 10, 2013. He anticipated a threatened motion of censure by the opposition.
