Anchor Jørgensen
Anker Henrik Jørgensen (born July 13, 1922 in Copenhagen ; † March 20, 2016 ) was a Danish social democratic politician and Prime Minister of his country.
Life
Jørgensen grew up as the son of a coach driver in poor circumstances. At the age of four he was orphaned and therefore adopted by his aunt, a tobacco worker, and his uncle, a chauffeur. Jørgensen went to school in the royal orphanage, where he also worked as a messenger, and finished this after the 7th grade. After graduating from secondary school in 1945, after attending evening school, he worked at shipyards as a warehouse and warehouse worker. Jørgensen was interned as a soldier in World War II and then joined the resistance . In 1949 he passed his preliminary exam after attending evening school.
1961 to 1964 Jørgensen was a member of the Copenhagen parliament and was elected to the Folketing in 1964 . In 1966 he co-founded the Socialdemokratisk samfund, a collection of the left wing of the Social Democrats. October 5, 1972 to December 19, 1973, Jørgensen Prime Minister with the purely Social Democratic Cabinet Jørgensen I . After an interruption by the liberal Hartling government , Jørgensen was again Prime Minister on February 13, 1975 with the Jørgensen II cabinet , but had to add the Venstre for his Jørgensen III cabinet. With the cabinets Jørgensen IV and Jørgensen V he ruled again with social democratic ministers until September 10, 1982. In 1978 he was also Danish Foreign Minister for a few months as the successor to Knud Børge Andersen . Jørgensen was the last non-academic to become Danish Prime Minister.
After resigning as Prime Minister and handing over the office to Poul Schlüter , Jørgensen remained party chairman of the Social Democrats until 1987 and a member of the Folketing until 1994.
