Christen Andreas Fonnesbech (born July 7, 1817 in Copenhagen ; † May 17, 1880 there ) was a Danish statesman .

Life

As the son of a wealthy businessman, after having successfully passed the legal examination at the age of 23, he renounced a career as a civil servant, became a landowner and was elected to the Reichstag in 1858 .

In the struggle of the national liberals with the peasant friends at the time, Fonnesbech placed himself in the ranks of the so-called independents, where he gained real influence. When Count Frijs-Frijsenborg formed his ministry in 1865, Fonnesbech took over the finance minister's portfolio in the same and skillfully solved the difficult tasks of this position.

In 1870 he received the portfolio of the Ministry of the Interior in the Ludvig Holstein-Holsteinborg Ministry . In this position he promoted several charitable laws and companies. But when he set up a ministry himself in 1874, he showed himself to be no match for the situation and especially for the opposition of the left in the Folketing and had to resign in 1875. He succumbed to an incurable disease on May 17, 1880.
