Moltke came from the Mecklenburg noble family Moltke , his father was the Minister of State Joachim Godske Moltke .

In 1805 Moltke passed his legal exam and shortly afterwards became an auscultant at Højesteret . In 1809 he took part in the peace negotiations in Jönköping following the Danish-Swedish war . Contemporary assessment

In 1848/9 the Nordic Telegraph wrote :

“Count Adam Wilhelm Moltke zu Bregentved is an old statesman who is highly respected by the people, who has rendered outstanding services to his fatherland through clever and conscientious administration of finances and the pension chamber [...]. A noble soul already speaks from its exterior, and one recognizes the active, active businessman at once. The full face, somewhat marked by age, the lively little eyes with strong, overhanging, light eyebrows, the high, noble forehead, the well-built, medium-sized figure and a fast, steady gait give the person who is always simply dressed, but with a certain something Gentleness in posture and movement is something peculiar to men. "

Marriages and offspring

In 1817 Moltke married Countess Frederikke Louise Knuth-Knuthenborg (January 2, 1797 - March 16, 1819), daughter of the secret conference councilor Frederik Knuth-Knuthenborg, in Copenhagen . After the death of his first wife, he married her sister Marie Elisabeth Knuth in Copenhagen on August 22, 1823 (January 2, 1791 - March 13, 1851), and the children were born from the marriage:

  • Frederik Georg Julius Moltke (born February 27, 1825 in Copenhagen, † October 1, 1875 at Bregentved Gods), later Foreign Minister
  • Maria Caroline Vilhelmine Moltke (* July 23, 1827 - † January 20, 1889)
  • Julie Georgine Sophie Moltke (May 4, 1830 in Copenhagen; † December 24, 1889, in Copenhagen)
  • Christian Henrik Carl Moltke (born May 13, 1833 - December 21, 1918 on Lystrup Gods)
