Otto Christian Scavenius

Otto Christian Scavenius (born December 10, 1875 in Basnæs , † September 10, 1945 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish diplomat. He was foreign minister in the short-lived Friis cabinet .

Life

Scavenius came from the noble family Scavenius . His father was the chamberlain Otto Scavenius . In 1893 he graduated from the Latin and Realschule in Østerbro , in 1897 he passed the political science exam. In the same year he began to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , where he was appointed assistant in 1899. From October to December 1900 he was legation secretary in Stockholm , from October to December 1901 he held the same post in Berlin and Paris , in Berlin also in 1903 and 1908 to 1909, in between again in Paris. In 1909 he was appointed Legation Councilor and Envoy in St. Petersburg , from where he moved to Stockholm in 1912. He later became head of the department. On April 5, 1920 he was appointed Danish Foreign Minister and a month later succeeded by Harald Scavenius .
