Ove Guldberg

Ove Guldberg (born December 2, 1918 in Nysted , Sjælland region , † February 28, 2008 ) was a Danish engineer and politician of the liberal Venstre and at times Minister for Public Works and Foreign Minister.

Life

Engineer and association official

After visiting the Katedralskole in Roskilde , he began studying engineering in 1937 , which he completed in 1942. He then worked as an engineer at Vejle Kommune , before joining the K. Hindhede company in 1943. He then became an employee in the office of the city engineer of Copenhagen in 1944 and worked from 1946 to 1947 in the research laboratory of the Ministry of Fisheries. Already during this time his commitment to Det Conservative Folkeparti began , for which he ran unsuccessfully for a member of the Folketing in the elections of October 28, 1947 in the constituency of Ribe .

Guldberg was also President of the Association for Civil Defense from 1962 to 1965 and a member of the Council for Civil Defense and between 1962 and 1968 was also a member of the board of the mining and trading company Kryolith Mine og Handels Selskabet A / S , which mainly mined cryolite in Greenland .

MP and Minister

In the elections of September 22, 1964 , Guldberg, now as a candidate for the liberal Venstre, was elected for the first time as a member of the Folketing and represented the constituency of Odsherred until the elections of February 15, 1977 .

On February 2, 1968, he was appointed Minister for Public Works ( Minister for offentlige Arbejder ) by Prime Minister Hilmar Baunsgaard in his cabinet and held this position until the end of Baunsgaard's tenure on October 11, 1971. After leaving the government, Guldberg became a member of the board of the Scandinavian airline SAS Scandinavian Airlines in 1975 . In 1977 he had to resign from the Folketing and European Parliament after the so-called Frikortage announced that he was using free flights as a board member of the SAS for his political activities.

In 1987 he settled in Ireland and Spain and brought several lawsuits against Denmark in which, among other things, he demanded the right to vote for Danes living abroad. In 2003 he returned to Denmark and was buried in the Østre cemetery in Roskilde after his death .
