Emil Schachtzabel

Emil Schachtzabel (born March 15, 1850 , † March 18, 1941 ) was a German administrative officer and pigeon fancier . He was one of the founders of the German color pigeons , club from 1894 and president of the Federation of German poultry breeders (BDRG) 1921-1934.

Life

Schachtzabel was magistrate senior secretary of the city of Halle an der Saale .

He played a leading role in the creation of numerous pattern descriptions and published the “Illustrated Splendid Work of All Pigeon Races” and the illustrations by Anton Schöner (1866-1930) contained therein, a forerunner of the “German Pedigree Standard”: the Schachtzabel , a standard work of pedigree breeding. With the publication of the 3rd edition of "Kramer's pocket book of Rassegeflügelzucht" in 1926 he became an "authoritative promoter" of the forerunner of the "Rassegewlügel-Standard des BDRG".

Honors

The regional association of Thuringian purebred poultry breeders erected a memorial to Emil Schachtzabel on the occasion of his 150th birthday on March 15, 2000.
