Work and tasks of the federal government

Purebred chickens and bantams , pigeons , turkeys and guinea fowl , geese and ducks contribute in particular to the preservation of rare and endangered breeds and thus to the preservation of genetic diversity. Many of these breeds were bred with optimal adaptation to their environment. With ornamental poultry , the focus is on maintaining the natural appearance of the animal. The breeder therefore speaks of " types " of chickens, wild pigeons and water fowl. One of the self-chosen tasks of the federal government is the conservation of the species and so active animal protection is of particular importance at the international level. The federal government would like to familiarize interested parties with natural breed poultry breeding, carry out the necessary educational work and provide advice to the clubs and associations. The basis is respect for the animal.

The Animal Welfare Advisory Board is part of the federal government. This coordinates the activities of the purebred poultry breeders with the numerous legal provisions on animal welfare. The federal government advocates the appropriate keeping of poultry and the achievement of certain beauty values while maintaining and improving the performance of the pedigree and ornamental poultry.

The work of the association also has an essential social component. People of all social, economic and ethnic backgrounds pursue their hobby and overcome any social barriers. The youth organization of the BDRG consists of 24,000 young people between the ages of 4 and 18 who exhibit their pedigree poultry in the local club, at the district youth show, the federal youth show and in 19 regional associations of the regional youth shows.
