Ove Wilhelm Michelsen (born August 28, 1800 in Tönning ; † April 20, 1880 ) was a Danish naval officer and served his country as naval and foreign minister .

Life

Michelsen was born in 1800 as the son of Christoph Friedrich Michelsen, city secretary of Tönning, and Margarethe Christine Michelsen, née Waltern. In 1818 Michelsen was made Second Lieutenant in the Navy. Shortly after his appointment as an officer, he became a teacher at the Naval Cadet Academy . In 1825 he was appointed prime lieutenant , 1834 lieutenant captain , 1842 captain , 1850 Kommandørkaptajn , 1852 Kommandør ; when he left the Navy, Michelsen had the character of a rear admiral .

On December 12, 1854, he succeeded Steen Andersen Bille as Minister of the Navy for the new Andræ cabinet and was replaced on this post by Hans Nicolai Thestrup on December 2, 1859 , and on April 17, 1857 he took over the Foreign Ministry from Ludvig Nicolaus von Scheele and became replaced by Carl Christian Hall on July 10, 1858 .

Michelsen was married twice. In 1822 he married Nicoline Christine Wleugel (* July 30, 1798, † October 18, 1844), adopted daughter of Rear Admiral Peter Johan Wleugel. In 1856 he married Marie Duntzelt (April 4, 1819, † 1871), daughter of the State Councilor William Frederik Duntzelt.
