Christian Albert Frederich Thomsen (born May 31, 1827 in Copenhagen , † June 28, 1896 in Frederiksberg ) was a Danish lieutenant general and minister.

Origin and family

Thomsen's father was the assessor and later conference councilor Andreas Peter Thomsen (1781–1860), his mother was his wife Anne Sabine, nee. Gude (1792-1873). On November 14, 1856 in Copenhagen Thomsen married Thora Michelle Voss (born November 23, 1831 in Copenhagen; † March 19, 1918 in Frederiksberg ), daughter of the medical professor and surgeon and later court dentist Christian Ludvig Voss (1801–1871) and his wife Thora Müffelmann (1808-1889).

Life

In 1844 Thomsen passed his Abitur. A year later he became a cand.phil and studied theology until he volunteered in the Schleswig-Holstein survey in 1848 and became a non-commissioned officer at the central school . A year later, Thomsen was second lieutenant in the war reserve. In 1856 he became a general staff aspirant and prime lieutenant . In 1858 he became captain and adjutant in the general staff . In 1860 he was employed in the War Ministry . Due to the ministerial changes in Hall II in 1863, he had to give way to Stephan Ankjær and found employment with the Inspector General of the Infantry. In December of the same year he became sous -chef at Cai Hegermann-Lindencrone and, in 1864, chief of staff with the character of a major . On December 23, 1872, Thomsen replaced Wolfgang von Haffner as Minister of War and the Navy in the Holstein-Holsteinborg government . On May 21, 1873, Niels Frederik Ravn replaced him as Minister of the Navy, and Thomsen held the post of war minister until the end of the government on July 14, 1874. In 1873 he was also a member of the Folketing for Frederiksborg office . After his political career, Thomsen took on many director and chairman posts.

Awards

In 1861 Thomsen was made a knight of the Dannebrog Order and in 1864 a Dannebrogmann . In 1865 he received the second class commander, in 1869 first class and in 1882 he received the Grand Cross .
