Wilhelm Friederich Ludwig (Frederik Ludvig) von Kauffmann (born March 25, 1821 in Rendsburg , † January 7, 1892 in Porthus ) was a Danish Lieutenant General and Minister of War .

Life

Kauffmann's father was the officer, most recently lieutenant colonel, Nicolaus Gustav Hermann von Kauffmann (1792–1850), his mother was his wife Marie Sophie Frederikke Falkenberg (1797–1877). Wilhelm's older brother Heinrich also became lieutenant general.

On November 1, 1838, Kauffmann was accepted into the Royal Military College . On April 18, 1840, he was appointed second lieutenant , dated back to September 21, 1838. On November 6, 1843, he was appointed prime lieutenant . On March 6, 1849, Kauffmann became a school officer in the land chain corps and taught fortification . On April 23, 1848, he joined the artillery brigade; on June 13 of the same year he was appointed captain II class. In the Schleswig-Holstein uprising he took part in the battles at Kolding , Fredericia and Isted . 1851 to 1886, with a short interruption, he was a teacher of technical mechanics at the Royal Military College; from 1851 to 1866 he taught technology there. In 1854 Kauffmann came to the brigade staff, on March 24 of the same year he received the character of a captain first class. On July 16, 1860 Kauffmann received the character of a major. In the German-Danish War he took part in the defense of the Düppeler Schanzen and was the highest commanding artillery officer on Als . At the subsequent London conference , Kauffmann was military advisor to the Danish delegation. On June 8, 1865, he became the commander of the Copenhagen Sea Fort, on August 16 of the same year he became a real major and a member of the commission to discuss the future armament of the infantry; also in 1865 he became chief of staff. On September 21, 1867, Kauffmann became a colonel and head of the armory department. On July 1, 1868, he became chief of the 1st artillery battery and the Copenhagen sea fortifications. On January 3, 1879, he was appointed major general and a day later Minister of War in the Estrup cabinet. He resigned the post of Minister of War on April 1, 1881. On April 5, 1881, Kauffmann was appointed lieutenant general and commanding general on Zealand. On March 18, 1891, he took his leave.

Marriage and offspring

On November 16, 1847, Kauffmann married Annette Angelica Tronier (* November 17, 1828 - † February 16, 1900), daughter of the officer, last lieutenant colonel, Carl Christian Tronier (1798-1851) and his wife Annette Cathrine Marie Mauer (1804 -28). The following children sprang from marriage:

  • Annette Angélique Caroline von Kauffmann (* October 4, 1849 - † February 17, 1905)
  • Wilhelm Hugo Emil Tronier von Kauffmann (born November 9, 1850; † 1852)
  • Wilhelm Otto Tronier von Kauffmann (born January 20, 1852 - † September 5, 1854)
  • Alma Clara Annette von Kauffmann (January 25, 1853 - April 16, 1855)
  • Days Gustav Carl Adelbert Tronier von Kauffmann (September 30, 1854 - May 27, 1856)
