Christian Frederik von Hansen (born November 29, 1788 in Helsingør , † June 22, 1873 ) was a Danish general and minister of war .

Life

Hansen's father was the master and vice-principal Hans Christian von Hansen (1753–1843), his mother was his wife Anna, nee. Bruun (1755 – approx. 1838). Hansen attended school in Helsingør. In 1806 he completed his law degree and embarked on a military career. In 1809 he was appointed second lieutenant of the Zeeland hunter corps. As a young officer he took part in the Napoleonic War in France, served in the Holstein Jägerkorps and in the Holstein infantry regiment. There he learned the French language. In 1822 he was employed as a lawyer in the general staff and for special purposes in higher administration. From 1831 to 1842 he was teaching director at the Landkadettenakademie and reorganized the educational program. During this time he was promoted to first lieutenant in 1833, division commander in 1835, in 1836 to commander of the Danebrog, in 1839 to senior adjutant and in 1841 to colonel. He was then a member of the commission that drafted a new army order in 1842 and spoke out in favor of general conscription, which was rejected by the Danish King Christian VIII . On March 25, 1948, Hansen was appointed head of the department of the newly created War Ministry and Anton Frederik Tscherning , whom he knew from his time in France, was appointed Minister of War. In 1848, in connection with the preparations for war that had been assigned to them, they agreed to introduce general conscription . On October 23, 1848 Hansen was a member of the Constituent Assembly ( Den Grundlovgivende Rigsforsamling ).
