Carl Lundbye

Carl Christian Lundbye , called Carl or CC (born April 25, 1812 in Brundby on the island of Samsø , † January 1, 1873 in Frederiksberg , Copenhagen ) was a Danish artillery officer and minister of war .

Life

Lundbye was the eldest of seven brothers; one of the brothers was the painter Johan Thomas Lundbye (1818–1848). He was made captain in 1844, awarded the order of "Knight of Dannebrog" in 1847, major in 1854, commander of the Dannebrog order in 1857 , colonel in the general staff in 1858 and chief of staff of the artillery in 1860. He was Danish Minister of War from 1856 to 1859 and from 1863 to 1864. After the unfortunate outcome of the battle for the Düppeler Schanzen in Denmark , he had to say goodbye and retired into private life. He was given the political responsibility that the Danish army was not prepared for a possible war. In addition, there were arguments with Generals Christian Julius de Meza and Georg Daniel Gerlach , which restricted their freedom of action. There was also a dispute with the Danish head of government Ditlev Gothard Monrad (government from December 1863 to July 1864).

Lundbye's first wife, his cousin Louise Lundbye (* 1818), died in 1845. In 1849 he married Emilie Cathrine Bjerre (1825–1924); the daughter Agnete Lundbye (1856-1927) was married to Hans Broch Broge (1852-1921).
