Johan Christopher Frederik (Frits) Dreyer (born January 13, 1814 in Køge , † September 12, 1898 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish lieutenant general and minister.

Family and origin

Dreyer's father was the officer, most recently major, Christoph Frederik Dreyer (1782-1830). His mother was his wife Johanne Marie, geb. Stockfleth (1782-1819). After his mother's death, Christoph Dreyer married Marie Elisabeth Fick (1793–1860). Frederik Dreyer married on December 8, 1839 on Redford in Holstein Ida Nicoline Margrethe Randrup (born December 28, 1812 in Copenhagen; March 1, 1893 ibid), daughter of the head of department and later clerk and councilor Christian Frederik Randrup (1787-1865) and his Wife Christiane Frederikke, b. Dreyer (1787-1849). The future astronomer Johan Ludvig Emil Dreyer arose from the marriage .

Life

Dreyer Land became a cadet in 1826 and a second lieutenant in 1829 . After graduating from military college from 1832 to 1836 , he was made a prime lieutenant . From 1841 to 1848 he did his service in the road sector. In 1842 he was appointed second class captain and in 1844 first class captain. During the Schleswig-Holstein uprising he served in the field engineer detachment, in 1849 as chief of staff, and took part in the battles at Sundeved , Gudsø and Fredericia . In 1850 he was given the character of a major and took part in the battle of Isted as the chief engineer officer. After the war he served in the engineering force until 1855, from 1853 as a commander . In 1855 he became a real major and was hired as a senior officer for the road system in Denmark. In 1859 he was given the character of a lieutenant colonel, and in 1863 he was made a real lieutenant colonel. During this year he held various positions in the railway sector as a controlling engineer in construction and as a director for the Zeeland railways and as a technical advisor to the Ministry of the Interior in railway matters.

In the German-Danish War he was the highest commanding engineer officer in the active army. As such, he took part in the council of war behind the Danewerk and the defense of the Düppeler Schanzen . In December 1864 Dreyer was temporarily chief of the engineer corps , in 1865 he became colonel and chief of the engineer corps. On September 13, 1867, with the seniority of 1866, he was appointed major general. On September 18, he took over the newly created position of General Inspector of the Engineer Troop and became chief of other corps affairs. On July 28, 1877, he took over the Ministry of War and the Navy under the particularly difficult circumstances that arose from the tense situation between the Estrup government and Folketing . In 1881 he took his leave, in 1884 he was given the character of lieutenant general.

Awards

In 1848 Dreyer was made a knight of the Dannebrog Order , in 1850 a Dannebrogmann , and in 1864 a first class commander. In 1876 he received the Grand Cross .
