Waldemar Rudolph von Raasløff (born November 6, 1815 , † February 14, 1883 ) was a Danish lieutenant general , diplomat and minister.

Life

Waldemar von Raasløff's parents were the army officer Andreas von Raasløff (1774–1851) and his wife Johanne Catharine, nee. Hansen (1785-1874). Waldemar's brother was the future Minister Harald von Raasløff .

From 1840 to 1841 he was in French service. From 1849 to 1850 he was battery chief in the battles at Kolding , Gudsø , Fredericia and Isted . From 1857 to 1863 he was a diplomat in the USA and China and from 1886 to 1870 Minister of War in the cabinet , in which he also served as an interim naval minister for a few months. In 1867 he tried to create the financial framework for a stronger army by using the money to sell the Danish West Indies to the USA. However, the sale failed because of the US President and the Senate. In 1870 Raasløff was actively involved in the attempt to forge an alliance with France against the German Empire.

Awards

In 1841 Raasløff was made a knight of the Dannebrog Order , in 1856 a Dannebrogmann . In 1856 he received the command of the Dannebrogden, in 1868 the Grand Cross .
