Christian Christopher Zahrtmann (born December 21, 1793 in Viborg , † April 15, 1853 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish naval officer and Minister of the Navy .

Life

Origin and family

Zahrtmann's father was the pastor Henrich Christian Zahrtmann (1762–1826), his mother was his wife Bodild Jochumine Zahrtmann, nee. Tetens (1771-1846). CC Zahrtmann married Sophie Elisabeth Donner on September 2, 1827 in Altona (1805–1858), daughter of the businessman and conference councilor Conrad Hinrich Donner (1774–1854) and his wife Elisabeth Donner, née. Willinck (1784-1826).

Military career

Political career

In 1846 Zahrtmann became a member of the Defense Commission. On October 23, 1848 he was a member of the Constituent Assembly ( Den Grundlovgivende Rigsforsamling ).

On March 11, 1848, Zahrtmann became a military deputy at the Admiralty College . In the March Ministry he did not take over the post of Minister of the Navy himself , but left this post to Prime Minister Adam Wilhelm Moltke himself and kept himself in the background as a knowledgeable advisor. Due to the criticism in the press that Moltke could now show no competent minister on the post, Zahrtmann finally took over the naval ministry on April 4th (in other sources the 6th) April 1848. He also kept this office in the following Moltke II cabinet until August 10, 1850, after which he was replaced by Carl Ludvig Christian Irminger .

Awards and memberships

In 1813 he was made a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog , in 1828 he was awarded the Dannebrogordenens Hæderstegn , in 1841 he was appointed Commander, in 1850 he was awarded the Grand Cross. In 1845 Zahrtmann was appointed chamberlain . In 1844 he became a member of the English Geographic Society. In 1846 he became a member of the Swedish Royal Society for Marine Sciences and in 1853 a member of the Imperial Russian Geographic Society.
