Prime Minister PG Bang

Peter Georg Bang (born October 7, 1797 in Roskilde ; † April 2, 1861 ) was a Danish lawyer , politician and minister . As Prime Minister, he headed the Bang cabinet .

Life

The son of Roskilder cathedral provost Jacob Bang and Anna Cathrine Sophie Hansen enrolled as a student at Frederiksborg School in 1813, became a lawyer in 1816 and received his doctorate in 1820. From 1830 to 1836 he held a teaching position as professor of Roman law at Copenhagen University and from 1836 to 1845 he was director of the National Bank.

Bang was royal commissioner at the provincial assemblies in Roskilde and Viborg. In 1848 he was appointed Minister of the Interior . He held this office with interruptions until 1856. From 1851 to 1852 he was minister of education and on December 12, 1854 the Danish king appointed him prime minister . From October 16, 1855 he received the title of President of the Council instead of the title of Prime Minister . Bang was the last Danish head of government with the title of Prime Minister. Peter Bang remained in office until October 18, 1856.

Awards and honors

After his death in 1868 Peter Bangs Vej (previously: Klammerivej) in Frederiksberg was named after him.
