Hans R. Knudsen

Hans Rynkeby Knudsen (born November 12, 1903 in Løgstør , Region Nordjylland ; † November 4, 1962 in Nykøbing Mors , Region Nordjylland) was a Danish journalist and politician of the Social Democrats , who was interior and finance minister among other things.

Life

Knudsen, whose father was originally a seaman and then an editor at the daily newspaper Social-Demokratie in Løgstør and a member of the local council, completed an apprenticeship in a factory after attending secondary school . In 1925 he finished his studies at the business school in Aarhus with the trade exam and then worked as an accountant in his hometown, before he began his political career in local politics in 1929 and became a member of the tax commission. He then became a journalist in 1931 like his father and was editor of the daily Skanderborg Social-Demokratie between 1936 and 1940 and also a member of the Skanderborg municipal council from 1937 to 1940 . In 1940 he moved to a daily newspaper in Nykøbing Mors as an editor and was a member of the local council there between 1946 and 1954.

In the elections of September 5, 1950 , Knudsen was elected as a candidate for the Social Democrats for the first time as a member of the Folketing and represented the Mors constituency in this . In the following years he became a recognized expert on tax law within the faction of his party. In addition, between 1954 and 1958 he was co-editor of the social democratic newspaper Verdens Gang .

On November 18, 1960, Knudsen was appointed by Prime Minister Viggo Kampmann as Minister of the Interior ( Indenrigsminister ) in his cabinet. As part of a government reshuffle, he was on September 7, 1961 as a successor to Kjeld Philip Finance ( finance minister ) in the Cabinet Kampmann and has held this ministerial post until his death in the since September 3, 1962 ruling government of Prime Minister Jens Otto Krag . As finance minister, alongside Prime Minister Kampmann, he led the legislative negotiations for sales tax in 1962, which Prime Minister Krag continued.
