Bjarne Fog Corydon (born March 1, 1973 in Kolding ) is a Danish politician from the Social Democrats and was Minister of Finance in the government of Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt from October 3, 2011 to June 28, 2015 .

Life

Corydon studied political science at Aarhus University . In 1992 he became a member of the Social Democratic Party and in 1996 he worked in the Office of the Social Democrats in the European Parliament . Here he worked a. a. as maternity protection for the office manager Helle Thorning-Schmidt. After completing his studies in 2000, he became an advisor to his party on economic policy issues.

In 2005 he was appointed chief of staff to party chairman Thorning-Schmidt and head of the analysis and information department at the party headquarters. In this role, alongside Henrik Sass Larsen, he played a key role in the growing collaboration between the Social Democrats and Socialistisk Folkeparti . He was considered a close political confidante of the party leader.

In the 2011 Folketing election he was given a seat in parliament and represented the constituency of Sydjyllands Storkreds in the Folketing . From October 3, 2011 to February 3, 2014, Corydon was Finance Minister of the Thorning-Schmidt I government and then of the Thorning-Schmidt II government until June 28, 2015 .

On December 22, 2015, Corydon announced that he was retiring from Danish politics in order to take a top position at the management consulting firm McKinsey .
