Dansk biografisk leksikon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dansk biografisk leksikon ( DBL , also Dansk Biografisk Leksikon ), spelling of the title of the first edition Dansk biografisk Lexikon , is Denmark's biographical lexicon and has so far been published in three editions. The first edition with the full title "Dansk biografisk Lexikon, tillige omfattende Norge for tidsrummet 1537-1814" ("... including Norway for the period from 1537-1814") appeared in 19 volumes from 1887 to 1905 under the historian Carl Frederik Bricka as Editor. Due to its age, it is in the public domain and is available in full online through the Runeberg project .

The second edition appeared from 1933 to 1944 in 27 volumes, the third from 1979 to 1984 in 16 volumes. In the third edition, some of the biographies from previous editions have been revised and updated. In addition, many biographies from the previous editions that were no longer considered relevant by the editors were omitted in this edition. In these cases, the previous editions are therefore still important.
