Country organizations i Danmark

Landsorganizations i Danmark , LO for short , is a trade union confederation in Denmark . It was founded on January 3, 1898 and with around 788,000 organized labor force (December 31, 2017) is the largest trade union confederation in the country. 18 individual trade unions belong to it.

In April 2018 the merger with the umbrella union FTF was decided. The new association Fagbevægelsens Hovedorganisation (FH) will be created on January 1st, 2019.

The LO negotiates the joint collective agreements . It is the labor market interest group of employees vis-à-vis the government, parliament and political parties. Overall, around 85 percent of the working population in Denmark are unionized.

The LO is a member of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).

The highest body is the Congress, which is convened every four years, most recently in 2015. The Congress elects a. a. the chairman and four deputies. Until the mid-1990s, the Social Democratic Party sent two representatives to the executive committee ( forretningsudvalg ), in return LO placed two members on the party executive committee . These links have been dissolved, but the union and social democrats are still working closely together.
