Haali Media Splitter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Haali Media Splitter is a free source filter for DirectShow that can unpack different container formats ("split" or "demux"). In addition to the Matroska format (.mkv), the current version also supports the formats MP4 , AVI , Ogg Media (.ogm) and MPEG-TS (.ts). Files with multiple picture or sound tracks or subtitles are also processed correctly.

If the Haali Media Splitter is installed, all DirectShow-based players, such as Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic , can process the named container formats. For playback, however, the appropriate decoder filters are also required for the respective image and sound formats, since the Haali Media Splitter is not responsible for the decoding itself. The ffdshow filter , for example, can be used for this task .

Problems

Anyone who experiences various problems, especially in a media center PC with the Haali Media Splitter, should know that not all functions in the current version are compatible with Windows Media Player 11. Most problems arise with two language tracks with the AVI container.
