history

The first edition of the newspaper founded by Engelbert Holterdorf (* 1858 in Bockum-Hövel ; † 1925 in Oelde) appeared on May 14, 1880 under the title Oelder Zeitung . The newspaper has had the name Die Glocke since 1884. The choice of the publishing house in Oelde was favored by the connection to the Cologne-Mindener railway, and the central location in the vicinity of the cities of Münster , Hamm , Paderborn and Bielefeld promised rapid growth of the young company. After the death of the founder Engelbert Holterdorf in 1925, his sons Joseph (1882–1961) and Paul (1892–1959) took over the management. The only interruption in production occurred during this period: the rotary press was idle between 1944 and 1949. In 1949 Die Glocke received a new license and the first post-war edition appeared on November 2, 1949. In the third generation, Engelbert Holterdorf (1926–2010) and Karl-Friedrich Gehring (1914–1993) were responsible for the fate of the publisher. Today Fried Gehring (* 1946) and Dirk Holterdorf (* 1960) are managing partners at the head of the publishing house with a total of around 230 permanent employees and around 800 newspaper deliverers.
