Hot Summer ( German: "Hot Summer" ) is a dance pop song by the German band Monrose . The lead single of the album Strictly Physical was written by the Danish songwriters and producers Remee and Thomas Troelsen and released on June 29, 2007 in Germany.

The band's third single was their second big hit after Shame . It reached number 1 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Hot Summer became one of the most downloaded songs of the year. Due to its great success, the song was also released in Finland, Holland and Slovenia, where it served as the band's musical debut. In May 2008, Monrose were awarded a Comet for the single.

song

Hot Summer was one of the first collaborations that Remee and his then new partner Thomas Troelsen had worked on in 2006. The song was selected from a total of 300 tracks as the album's lead single. This was done deliberately, with the aim of breaking out of the "ballad image" attached to the group. The girls from Monrose described the song as the perfect "good mood song" :

Hot Summer is cool and sexy. The song goes straight to the feet. This is our contribution to wild summer parties. "

- Senna Guemmour, Monrose

Although a small excerpt from the song was shown on the show taff , the song only had its official premiere at the finale of the second season of Germany's Next Topmodel on May 24, 2007. CD and download contain the B-side Scream , as well as remixes by Tai Jason and Beathoavens.

Excerpt

"I got a feeling, and I just can't let it go.
Now I can't stop it, baby, let's get physical.
Just wanna get a bit of good vibrations.
And I can feel it in the air.

It's gonna be a hot summer. "

- Refrain, original excerpt

“I have a feeling that I can't get rid of it.
I can't stop so let's do it.
Just want a little good vibes.
And I feel it in the air.

It's going to be a hot summer. "

- Refrain, German translation

Music video

The music video for Hot Summer was shot by Bernard Wedig on June 18, 2007 in Berlin. The video was first featured on the band's website; the official premiere on television took place on June 28, 2007 on the music channel VIVA.

The music video has no specific storyline. You see the three girls from Monrose dancing in front of white, black, blue and red backgrounds, while scenes of three dancing men are faded in between. In the bridge of the song the black bars disappear and are integrated into the video, so that it appears as if the girls are climbing out of the video.

Chart successes

In the first week of the chart, Monrose was able to place itself in second place in the single charts. The following week, the song climbed to the top position and became the trio's second number one hit. Hot Summer also reached number 1 in the download charts and number 8 in the dance charts. Due to its success, the song was awarded gold in Germany.

In Austria the song immediately reached number 1 and also achieved gold status; in Switzerland, the song was at the top of the charts in its fifth week.
