Ellen DeGeneres (2011)

The Ellen DeGeneres Show (often just Ellen for short ) is an American talk show hosted by Ellen DeGeneres . It was first broadcast on September 8, 2003 on NBC and those with content syndication . In January 2016, broadcasting was secured until 2020. Ellen has been broadcast on high definition television since the beginning of the sixth season .

A broadcast in Germany with the original English sound and German subtitles took place from October 6, 2013 on each Sunday morning with five episodes in a row on the pay TV channel SAT.1 emotions . The broadcast on German television has now ceased.

concept

Ellen DeGeneres starts the show with a monologue in which she speaks humorous about current topics and then dances through the audience to the music of her own DJ. This is one of the hallmarks of the talk show.

Not only prominent people are invited to the talk at Ellen, but also ordinary people who have something special to report, or children with special talents. The audience in the studio and in front of the television is also involved in the show through games and various activities (such as the request to send in particularly unsuccessful photos and videos, favorite recipes or particularly bizarre finds).

Production and characteristics

Cast and crew

The executive producers are Ellen DeGeneres, Mary Connelly, Ed Glavin, Andy Lassner and Jim Paratore. The writing team is made up of Karen Kilgariff, Karen Anderson, Margaret Smith and Ellen DeGeneres. Margaret Smith recently left the cast to focus on her own projects. Amy Rhodes, a writer for the talk show, appeared regularly on camera during various segments.

Directed by Manny Rodriguez (90 episodes, 2006–2007), Liz Patrick (30 episodes, 2004–2010), Peter Fowkes (4 episodes, 2007), Suzanne Luna (4 episodes, 2010) and Barry Glazer (3 episodes, 2006– 2007). The current director of Ellen is Michael Dimich.

music

Unlike most talk shows, this one uses a DJ for the music instead of a band . At first it was DJ Scott K, but he left the talk show after a few weeks. He had been replaced by Tony Okungbowa. But as his acting career experienced an upswing, he also left the talk show and Jon Abrahams replaced him. Jon Abrahams stayed for one season. KROQ's Ted Stryker originally only wanted to take on the fifth season, but he stays longer until Okungbowa returns.

Locations

The first five seasons were recorded in Studio 11 at NBC Studios in Burbank, Los Angeles County , and today they are recorded by Warner Bros. on Stage 1 in Burbank.

Special episodes

Various episodes were dedicated to a specific topic or format, be it those about Broadway shows or those in which Thanksgiving is celebrated and even an entire episode that was shot on an airplane. Other recurring themes include featured products from Ellen's sponsors (similar to Oprah's Favorite Things from The Oprah Winfrey Show ) and numerous milestone episodes on the 1000th, 1500th episode, etc.

International charisma

The talk show is syndicated almost all over the world , including Australia , Brazil , Chile , Ireland , Israel , Canada , Mexico , New Zealand , Norway , the Philippines , Portugal , Romania , Sweden , Singapore , South Africa , the United Kingdom and the UK Turkey .
