Camila is the debut album by the Cuban - US singer Camila Cabello . It was released on January 12, 2018 by Epic Records and Syco Music . It peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200 .

background

Cabello became known as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony . After a long period of speculation, she announced on December 18, 2016 that she would leave the band to pursue a solo career. Originally, Cabello planned to remain a member of the group while working on her solo album, which the other members did not accept, which is why she decided to leave the group.

On May 14, 2017, Cabello announced that their debut album was titled The Hurting, the Healing, the Loving. should wear and initially named September 2017 as the preliminary release date. Due to major changes to the album, including the original lead single was deleted from the tracklist, the release was delayed. Cabello decided to change the title to Camila and the album was finally released on January 12, 2018.

reception

Yannik Gölz from Laut.de gave Camila four out of five possible stars. "Although still an obvious pop album," Camila "is noticeably less concerned about hits, but rather unobtrusive and far more subtle than Cabello's previous work would suggest," the critic explained in his album review. “All in all," Camila "is a convincing debut that authentically picks up on last year's Latin boom. And that remains mainstream-friendly throughout without affecting the musical integrity ”, was his conclusion.

For Felix Heinecker from Plattentests.de , the album is “a double-edged sword in the end”. He gave the album six out of ten points and thinks: “The lady undoubtedly has talent and a good feel for the sound that suits her. [...] On the other hand, the small portion also leaves the diffuse feeling that there is Line would have gone a little more ”.

Singles

On May 19, 2017, Crying in the Club was released as the lead single, which made it to number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 . Havana (with Young Thug ) and OMG (with Quavo ) followed on August 3rd as promo singles. While working on the album, Cabello decided not to include Crying in the Club in the final version of the album. Instead, Havana took that place and was released as a single on September 8th.
