2003-2007: Folk Music

Founding members Kevin Nishimura, James Roh and Jae Choung grew up in Koreatown in Los Angeles, California. The then trio initially promoted their music online and performed in local clubs in Los Angeles. After starting their musical career in 2001 as Emcee's Anonymous , they later renamed themselves Far East Movement and recorded a song of the same name. In 2003, they organized a charity event called Movementality in Koreatown, Los Angeles, the proceeds of which went to a youth drug therapy center. The group released their first studio album , Folk Music , in the spring of 2006. The success of the single Round Round , which was used in the film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift , was the decisive factor for the beginning of the band's musical career. This was followed by concerts in the USA, South America , Canada and Asia , and the band also signed record deals in Japan and Korea with Avex Network and JF Productions . In 2007 the group recorded the song Seniation for the soundtrack of the film Finishing the Game . They later released the single You've Got A Friend feat. Lil Rob and Baby Bash , which was the first of her songs to be played on major American radio stations.

2008–2009: DJ Virman and the album Animal

DJ Virman, a DJ from Los Angeles radio station Power 106 , joined the group in 2008 and became their official DJ. At the end of 2008, the second album Animal was released . It contained the three single releases "You've Got A Friend", "Lowridin" and "Girls On The Dance Floor." The latter in particular was often played on American radio stations, but initially it was not a success. Girls on the Dance Floor was also listened to over 5 million times on Myspace , and the accompanying music video was viewed over a million times on YouTube . The single was also used by several groups in the fourth season finale of the MTV series America's Best Dance Crew . The Animal album includes collaborations with The Stereotypes , Lil Rob , Baby Bash , Bruno Mars , Wiz Khalifa , Bionik , 24/8 , IZ , DB Tonik and Jah Free . Music of the album was in the movie Get Him in, FOX's So You Think You Can Dance and the series CSI: Miami included. The single Dance Like Michael Jackson was used in the series Gossip Girl .

In 2009 the band performed at Power 106's Powerhouse 2009 , a big hip-hop concert in Los Angeles, where hip-hop greats like Jay-Z , Kid Cudi , Sean Paul , New Boyz , Pitbull , Lil Jon , LMFAO , Ya Boy , Flo Rida and The Black Eyed Peas performed. The clothing manufacturer Orisue supported Far East Movement with the music video for their single Lowridin .
