Rocketeer is a song of the American Electro - / hip-hop - and dance - quartet Far East Movement in collaboration with the singer Ryan Tedder . It was released as the second single from the album Free Wired , first on October 29, 2010 in the United States. The single was released on January 28, 2011 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and on February 11, 2011 in the United Kingdom. The song was parodied by YouTubers Ryan Higa , KevJumba and Chester See , among others . In total, the version called Shed a Tear has been viewed over 18.5 million times on YouTube. Rocketeer appeared on the Cherrytree Records label .
Text and recording
According to Far East Movement member Kevin Nishimura, the text is about wanting to show a girl that you love her and therefore you want to show her the whole world. Copywriters were Bruno Mars , Jae Choung, James Roh, Kevin Nishimura, Virman Coquia, Jonathan Yip, Jeremy Reeves, Ray Romulus and Philip Lawrence. Kev Nish also stated that they had been listening to Tedder's band OneRepublic's Apologize in studio and that they wanted that sound to be in their song too. Far East Movement said they loved the fact that they could arrange Tedder who had a "busy schedule" and could find the time to record with them.
Music video
The official music video was first released on YouTube on October 29, 2010 . It starts with a young couple. The woman says that she should have accepted the job in Tokyo , but the man cannot go there. They kiss and he drives home on a skateboard. He drives through the city and collects old things from various people. Together with his father, he constructs a rocket backpack from these so that he can get to her. Martin Kierszenbaum and DJ Quik appear in the music video .

criticism
Digital Spy’s Nick Levine said that with the production of the Smeezingtons , the sweeping chorus sung by Ryan Tedder and the personality of the Far East Movement, the song would make a very good song. He awarded four stars out of five. About.com's Bill Lamb also gave it four stars and said the song would be perfect for mainstream and pop radio.
