Dailymotion is a video portal from the French company of the same name , where videos can be uploaded and viewed publicly. Dailymotion was founded in Paris in 2005 and is now one of the world's leading video portals on the Internet. Today there are several offices in Paris, Barcelona , London , Athens , Mumbai and New York City . There are eleven localized portal pages that contain their own program planning. Dailymotion was founded in February 2005 by Benjamin Bejbaum as CEO and Olivier Poitrey as CTO . As one of the top 50 sites worldwide, Dailymotion recorded a traffic growth of more than 75 percent in the second quarter of 2007 alone . In July 2007 the site was visited by more than 37 million Unique users and reached over 1.3 billion page impressions . By 2009, 40 million euros in risk capital had been raised . In the first half of 2010, the German site was visited by around two million unique users per month. In 2011 Orange acquired 49 percent of the company for 60 million euros. In early 2013, Orange finally bought the remaining 51% for a further 60 million euros. The attempts by Yahoo to acquire Dailymotion for around 300 million dollars in the spring of 2013, as well as by PCCW , were rejected by the French government, with the wish to keep the video platform in Europe. In June 2015, the French media group Vivendi finally bought Dailymotion for around 217 million euros with an 80% stake. A month later Vivendi increased its stake to 90%.

Technical

At Dailymotion, users can search videos by tags , topic channels or groups created by users. Users can upload videos of up to 2 gigabytes and a length of 60 minutes. If a user is MotionMaker or MotionPartner - a program for particularly creative users or partners - they can upload videos of unlimited length.

Dailymotion uses the TrueMotion VP6 codec with a resolution of 640 × 480 pixels . Since mid-2009 it has been possible to watch videos in the free video format Ogg - Theora on Dailymotion . So you can z. B. play the videos with the Firefox browser from version 3.5 without additional plug-ins .
