Karl Schloz

Karl Schloz (born March 15, 1971 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American studio and jazz guitarist living in Germany .

Karl Schloz grew up in a suburb of St. Louis; As a child, he was initially musically influenced by his parents' country records. At the age of eleven he learned to play the guitar; At fourteen, under the impression of Miles Davis ' album Four and More, he became enthusiastic about jazz. At the age of 16 he had lessons at Southern Illinois University with jazz guitarist Jack Haydon. After graduating from high school, he studied at SIUE and during this time played at weddings, cocktail parties and bar mitzvas ; also in the backing bands of The Drifters , The Temptations and The Shangri-Las . In the early 1990s, Bucky Pizzarelli became his mentor, who encouraged him to move to New York in 1994, where he performed in jazz clubs and among others. a. starred with Joe Magnarelli , Glen Drewes , Warren Vaché , Harry Allen , Rosemary Clooney and John Colianni . After moving to Berlin , he worked with Till Brönner ( Chattin with Chet , 2000) and worked on productions by Heike Makatsch ( Sings Hildegard Knef ), Barbara Schöneberger ( now she sings too , 2007), Manfred Krug , the No Angels , Mark Murphy ( Love is What Stays , 2007), Pe Werner , Frank Chastenier and Bill Ramsey . In 2001 he presented his debut album A Smooth One . Schloz also played with other guitarists, such as Manfred Dierkes , and is currently working in a quartet with Peter Less , Stefan Weeke and Ernst Bier .
