Manfred Dierkes

Manfred Dierkes (born February 25, 1966 - † July 4, 2015 ) was a German jazz guitarist . He played in the fingerstyle style.

Live and act

Dierkes has been a self-taught guitarist since he was twelve. From 1988 he studied business administration at the Technical University of Berlin until he graduated and then became a musician. He performed with his own trio (with Mario Würzebesser, drums, and Michael Waterstradt, bass) and with solo programs, but also played with various Berlin big bands, in the Macky Gäbler Quartet, with Rolf Römer and in a duo with Sigi Busch and from 1993 to 2003 with Pascal von Wroblewsky . In 2013 he started working with the guitarists Karl Schloz and Torsten Goods .

Dierkes released the solo CD It's About Time (2000) in 2000; The album Caldera (2002) followed with his trio , also on Acoustic Music Records. He recorded the solo album Four Brothers and a Thumb in 2007. He can also be heard on albums by Pascal von Wroblewsky , Sigi Busch, the big band of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra .

He was a lecturer in jazz guitar at the Berlin Jazz Institute .

Prizes and awards

The Manfred Dierkes Trio won the Berlin Jazz & Blues Award 2003.
