Torsten Goods (* 25. October 1980 in Dusseldorf as Torsten Gutknecht ) is a German jazz guitarist , singer and - Composer .

Live and act

Goods, son of an Irish mother and a German father, began his musical career at the age of 14 in Erlangen . His greatest role models include George Benson , Biréli Lagrène , Wes Montgomery , Django Reinhardt , Stevie Wonder , Kenny Loggins and Freddie Mercury , who mainly influenced him musically.

Goods came to jazz in 1998 at the age of 17: he was inspired by guitarist Peter O'Mara . First workshops followed in summer 1999 and 2000 with Jim Hall and John Scofield in New York City , USA. In 2000 he became a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra directed by Peter Herbolzheimer .

From 2001 to 2003 he received a scholarship that enabled him to study jazz guitar at New School University , New York City with Vic Juris and Jack Wilkins . During his stay in the USA he played with Reverend Run ( Run DMC ), Seleno Clarke , a good friend of George Benson, who introduced Goods and Benson to one another, and Les Paul , who ultimately gave him the stage name Goods. Jam sessions with Mike Stern , Biréli Lagrène and Jack Wilkins were part of his everyday life in New York.

In 2005 Goods was one of the ten worldwide semi-finalists in the "Thelonious Monk Jazz Guitar Competition", to which he was the only European invited to Washington, DC .

Goods recorded his debut album Manhattan Walls before he graduated from high school: Tony Lakatos , Davide Petrocca , Guido May , Dejan Terzic , and Rick Keller supported him in the 2001 recordings of "Manhattan Walls" ( Jardis ). His second CD Steppin was nominated in 2004 for the quarterly best list for the German Record Critics' Prize. In 2006 Goods produced his first album for ACT : Irish Heart , a tribute to his mother's (Northern Irish) homeland, about which the Evening Standard wrote “Goods (...) has breakthrough talent galore. Inspired by George Benson, he sings winningly and plays the guitar superbly. "

Goods performed at the 2007 Leverkusen Jazz Days and in 2008 at the Burghausen Jazz Week . He can also be heard on recordings by Helen Schneider and Andiissenbeck.
