Guido May
Guido May (born August 18, 1968 in Bad Reichenhall ) is a German drummer.
biography
He started playing drums when he was 15. He then studied for two years at the Drummers Focus drum school in Munich. From 1985 to 1988 he attended jazz workshops in Burghausen, Ingolstadt, Erlangen and the popular music course in Hamburg. In 1989 he went to New York and was at the Vermont Jazz Center under the direction of Attila Zoller . In 1991 he won first prize at the Leipzig Jazz Days . In 1996 he made his first recordings with Peter O'Mara , Johannes Enders , Rick Keller and Pee Wee Ellis, followed by a European tour. 1997 tours with Barbara Dennerlein , Mose Allison incl. International Jazz Week Burghausen . In 1998 he was in the final of the "Hennessy Jazz Search" with the Peter O'Mara Band. 1999 tours with Peter Fessler and Wolfgang Schmid's "Kick". In 2000 he was the winner of the “Hennessy Jazz Search” with the band “Cafe du Sport”. A production with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra feat. Kenny Wheeler followed suit . On tours he accompanied the "New York Voices" and the Pee Wee Ellis "Assembly" feat. Fred Wesley . In 2005 he was on a West Africa tour with “Cafe du Sport” organized by the Goethe Institute . 2007 concerts with the Antonio Faraò Trio feat. Franco Ambrosetti and tours with the Pee Wee Ellis “Assembly”, as well as the reunion of the “JB-Horns” together with Maceo Parker . India tour with “Café du Sport”.
