Roberto Di Gioia
Roberto Di Gioia (* 1965 in Milan ) is an Italian-German jazz pianist and supporter of the sound aesthetics of the 1970s .
Life
Di Gioia began to play the piano at the age of four, a year later he became enthusiastic about radio broadcasts by the Beatles and accompanied them on his home organ. After graduating from the Gabrieli-Gymnasium in Eichstätt (Bayern) he tried in 1985 to start as a professional musician and rose in 1990 Passport of Klaus Doldinger one. This was followed by collaborations with Udo Lindenberg , Helge Schneider , Albert Mangelsdorff , John Schröder and Johannes Enders , but also with the Americans Art Farmer , Johnny Griffin , Joe Lovano and Clark Terry .
Around 1995 Di Gioia began realizing his own projects with his long-time companion Wolfgang Haffner . At the end of the 1990s Marsmobile appeared ; Di Gioia describes it as an amalgam of “club pop ” and “lounge nu jazz ”. In 2004 it published its CD Strange World , an idiosyncratic jazz-pop liaison with the Beatles era.
In addition to his own projects, the pianist and composer also works with Max Herre , Till Brönner , Wigald Boning as well as with The Notwist and Console from Weilheim .
In 2010 his Marsmobil CD (Why Don't You Take) The Other Side? .
Since 2017 he has been leading the band Web Web with Tony Lakatos , Christian von Kaphengst and Peter Gall .
