Tenoration CD cover

Tenoration is a jazz and funk album by Pee Wee Ellis that was recorded in 2010 and released in 2011.

background

Although Pee Wee Ellis is one of the forefathers of funk music, his first love was jazz. Pee Wee Ellis: “I started as a musician in the James Brown Band in order to be able to afford to play jazz.” The CD Tenoration is a reflection of his musical career, which brought him from jazz to funk and then back to jazz again. Apart from drummer Guido May, he engaged two different rhythm sections to record the two CDs. CD 1 focuses on funk compositions, CD 2 jazz compositions.

reception

"From Jazz to Funk and Back" (so the subtitle) Pee Wee Ellis leads the listeners of the double CD Tenoration . Hardly anyone could do that better than the 70-year-old tenor saxophonist: Ellis acquired his funk skills as a soloist and musical director with James Brown. And how great he can interpret jazz standards, he shows on the new record with the title "You've Changed".
