Tony Remy (born August 13, 1962 in London ) is a British jazz guitarist on jazz radio .

Life

Remy is influenced by both jazz guitarists like John Scofield and rock guitarists like Jimi Hendrix . He played in the band of flutist Phillip Bent in the mid-1980s and in Desparetly Seeking Fusion with bassist Nick Cohen , a longtime musical partner of Remy. He founded the world music oriented band Lateraly Thinking (with steel drums, vibraphone and vocals) and the Tony Remy Band and played in the quartet of Jason Rebello in the early 1990s . In the early 1990s he received a recording contract with GRP Records .

He played with Steve Williamson , Cleveland Watkiss , Roger Beaujolais , Courtney Pine and regularly with Julian Joseph (e.g. in his Big Band) and Jean Toussaint ( Who's Blues 1992, Ronnie Scott's Jazz House, with Jason Rebello and Nick Cohen). He also accompanied traveling musicians such as Pee Wee Ellis , Lonnie Liston Smith , Freddie Hubbard , Lenny White and Nelson Rangell .

He also composes film music, for example for the Mike Leigh film Career Girls (1997). In addition to guitar, he also plays the vocoder , for example on Boof! .

Remy recorded under his own name, Boof! (GRP 1994, with Courtney Pine, Cleveland Watkiss), Metamorfollow-g (on his label Alltone 1997) and the live album Jammin at the 12 bar club (Alltone 1999).

He has also recorded with Down to the Bone , Cachaito Lopez , Jean-Paul "Bluey" Maunick and Sheena Easton .
