Phillip Bent

Phillip Bent (born September 16, 1964 in London ) is a British jazz flutist (also piccolo and keyboard ) of acid jazz with influences from reggae , funk , soul and hip-hop . He was part of the group of young black musicians from the Jazz Warriors who achieved prominence in jazz in Great Britain in the 1980s.

Bent studied at Weekend Arts College (WAC) in Interchange in North London from 1982 to 1986 and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for two years . At the age of 18 he was already working as a studio musician, for example for Womack & Womack and Ronnie Jordan . Bent was in the GRP All Star Big Band in the 1980s and with the Jazz Warriors from 1986 to 1989 . He also founded his own quintet in 1987, with whom he toured and played at the Camden Jazz Festival; he also worked with two other Jazz Warriors ( Steve Williams , Courtney Pine ) and in 1987 at Art Blakey .

He released the album The Pressure under his own name on GRP in 1993 and The Magic of Your Spell on Magic Sound in 2007 .

He appropriately uses an electronically amplified flute in the electronic bands he plays with.
