Mike Posner

Michael Robert Henrion "Mike" Posner (born February 12, 1988 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American pop rapper .

life and career

Mike Posner was born in Detroit, the son of a pharmacist and a lawyer. His father was Jewish and his mother is Roman Catholic . He attended Wylie E. Groves High School and then went to Duke University . In high school, his music was even more influenced by hip-hop , as can be clearly heard in his mixtape Reflections of a Lost Teen . Later the influences of pop music increased.

He recorded his first mixtape A Matter of Time with Don Cannon and DJ Benzi in March 2009 in his dorm room at Duke University . In July 2009 Posner signed a record deal with the major label J Records (RCA / Sony).

After signing the contract, he returned to Duke University. On weekends he recorded his debut album and gave concerts. His second mixtape, One Foot Out the Door , hosted by Clinton Sparks, was released on October 27, 2009.

His debut album 31 Minutes to Takeoff was released on September 10, 2010. The first single, Cooler Than Me , reached number six in the US singles charts . Two more top 40 hits followed with Please Don't Go and Bow Chicka Wow Wow , after which it became quieter around him.

Mike Posner had his second big single hit in 2015. He owed it to the Norwegian producer duo SeeB (Simen Eriksrud and Espen Berg). Her remix of I Took a Pill in Ibiza from the EP The Truth became a number one hit in Norway in autumn 2015 and then spread to Scandinavia. In early 2016 the song was in the charts across Europe and North America and reached number one in the Netherlands and Great Britain , among others . Posner often had to make it clear that his song shouldn't portray drugs positively. Because of the song, he received an invitation from Ibiza's tourism boss to get to know the island's culture. His Walk across the USA, during which Mike Posner hiked from the east to the west coast of the USA, repeatedly published songs and covered a total of over 2,500 miles from April 15 to October 19, 2019, received more attention. He was bitten by a rattlesnake during this trip .
