Rachel Morrison

Rachel Morrison (born April 27, 1978 in Massachusetts ) is an American camerawoman and television director .

Life

Rachel Morrison grew up in Cambridge , Massachusetts, and graduated from Concord Academy in 1996. She later took a double degree at New York University , at the end of which she decided to work behind the camera. She graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2006 and began her career in television.

In the independent film Palo Alto, CA by Brad Leong , published in 2007, acted Morrison first time as a camerawoman with a feature film. In January 2013, by Ryan Coogler the Festival Sundance Film film Fruitvale Station: Next stop presented, also with Morrison behind the camera. 2014 was followed by work on Cake by Daniel Barnz . With Rick Famuyiwa she made the film Dope the following year , which also premiered at the Sundance Film Festival .

In 2015, Morrison first directed an episode of the television series Quantico . Between 2015 and 2016 she was responsible for two episodes as the director of the series American Crime . In 2017 Dee Rees presented her film Mudbound at the Sundance Film Festival , where Morrison had again worked as a camerawoman. In 2018 she became the first woman in the history of the Oscars to be nominated for a prize in the category Best Camera for this work .

Morrison lives in Los Angeles with her wife Rachel and was mother of a son in 2015.
