occupation

The High Note is a film by Nisha Ganatra that was released on May 29, 2020 in the USA and on June 12, 2020 in Germany as video-on-demand.

action

To make a name for herself as a record producer in the fast-paced Hollywood music scene, Maggie, who works as Grace Davis' assistant, must finally step out of the shadows of the aging pop diva. She has great talent, but her ego has also reached incredible heights. Davis doesn't just want to perform her biggest hits over and over again, he wants to record a new album.

production

After Wanuri Kahiu was originally supposed to direct , Nisha Ganatra took over the position, who had already made Late Night , a similarly women-centric film set in a male-dominated world, albeit the world of late-night shows, not the Hollywood music scene. Flora Greeson wrote the script . This landed in 2018, under the title "Covers", on the blacklist of Hollywood's best unfilmed ideas .

Tracee Ellis Ross , daughter of Motown singer Diana Ross , plays pop diva Grace Davis, and Dakota Johnson plays her assistant Maggie. Kelvin Harrison Jr. took on the role of David Cliff.

The film music was composed by Amie Doherty . The soundtrack album , produced by rapper and songwriter Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins , which includes 13 pieces of music and 2 additional bonus tracks, is slated for download on May 29, 2020 by Republic Records . The first song, Love Myself performed by the actress Tracee Ellis Ross, has been available as a single download since mid-May 2020.

The film was released on May 29, 2020 in the USA and on June 12, 2020 in Germany as video-on-demand after a theatrical release was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

reception

The film has so far received a mixed response from critics.
